“Look, West, she’s sexy!  Of course he’s going to flirt with her.”

Ludwig gives Gil a look of frustration.

“I’ve flirted with her.”

“Gilbert!”

“So’s Toni and Francis.”

“Ja, but they flirt with everyone…  Und so do you, you shouldn’t do that.”

“Hey.  Flirting’s fun.  You should try it sometime.”

“I do flirt!  I just flirt with _____; like you should only flirt with Elizabeta.”

“I will always go back to her, everyone knows that.  But, that’s not-…  Ivan’s flirted with _____.”

“What?!  That vodka addict!  I’ll have his head!”

“West, this is exactly what I’m talking about, even that dumkopf hits on her und where is she right now?  In your bed.”

“For now.”  The creepy voice comes through the door they’re guarding.  It’s Bernard.  “I could get her.  Berwald will get her, you’ll see.”

Gil shoves his arm over Ludwig’s chest to keep him in his seat.

“What did you say she told you?”  Gil whispers to Ludwig.  “She’ll stay with you, West.  He’s tormenting you, winding you up.”

It’s not working.  Ludwig still wants to pummel Bernard, and Berwald.

“West, don’t do it.  If you go storming in there, they could overwhelm us, then everyone would be in danger.  West, _____ would be in danger.”

Finally, Gil finds Ludwig’s halting topic.  He leans back and takes in a deep breath, though still angry.

Bernard’s laughter rings through the door and echoes around your skull.

You sit bolt upright, hot and sweaty in bed.  Ludwig’s beside you, still asleep, as are Gil and Elizabeta in the other bed.

It was a dream.

Just then, there’s a thump at the door.  It startles you, but somehow doesn’t wake any of the others.

You carefully slip out of bed and cross the room to the door.  You don’t recognise the mental signature of the person outside.

Taking a deep breath, you set-up a barrier at the doorframe and swiftly open the door.  You’re startled and speechless as you see a large, stocky, green, bold featured, troll.

Your jaw falls open a little.

His face drops into a disapproving grimace, “Please, don’t do that.”

“Uh- I’m sorry.”  You stutter.  Cautiously, and prepared to strike, you leave the room and shut the door, so as not to wake the others.

Once the door’s shut, you ask “So…  Who are you?”

“It’s not important who I am.  I’m here on behalf of Bjørn.  He wants to talk to you…  You’re going to want something warm to put on.”

Still a little startled, you nod and open the door back into your room.  You change into a pair of knitted leggings with a long sleeve top, that you’d bought at the airport.

Ludwig begins to stir as you fetch your hoodie.  He’s not awake though, so you decide to leave him a note:
    Just gone for a walk, c u @ breakfast. _____ xXx

You leave with the troll and he takes you down some more levels into the, almost freezing, catacombs.  He sends you around some pillars where you find Bjørn.

“Hey.”  You greet.

“Hei.”  He turns to face you.

“Um…  I’m a little chilly…  Do you mind if I make a fire?”

“By all means, go ahead…  I would appreciate it myself.”

You stamp your foot into the floor; sending (eye/c) sparks across the floor a few metres from you both before they ignite into an inferno to put a bonfire to shame.

“It’s nice to have others to talk to who understand.”  He says.

“I’m sorry, what?”

“It’s nice to be able to talk to someone else who has magic, and can see those the others can’t.  Your magic is beautiful, by the way.”

“U- Thank you…  A- Are you telling me the others can’t see…?”  You gesture around the pillars.

“Troll?  Yes…  He can only be seen by a few people who possess magic.”

“I suppose that does explain why the others didn’t wake when he knocked on the door…  Haven’t you spoken to Arthur about your magic?”

“Yes…  But, we don’t often get the opportunity to be able to speak freely.  Troll is fetching him now, by the way.”

“So, what would you like to talk about?”

“Well, I don’t know you very well, tell me about yourself before Arthur gets here - he knows you already, I’m assuming.”

“Yes, he does; I suppose you could say he’s my brother.  Though I can use incantations, my magic tends to be spontaneous.  As you can see, I produce (eye/c) flames.  I discovered my magic less than a month ago, and Arthur helped me develop some of my skills and create my magic circle - I think we nearly lost him that day, I would never’ve forgiven myself.  We’ve grown so much closer because of it.”

“Are you talking about you and Ludwig?  You never talk about yourselves.”  Arthur joins you.

“Ludwig?!”  Bjørn’s surprised.

“Yeah.”  Arthur agrees.

“Like, together?”  Bjørn still asks.

“Yes, Ludwig and I are together.”

“You know she was virtually stalking him beforehand.”  Arthur tells Bjørn, who chuckles.

“Yeah, Arthur?”  You’re actually curious, but think you know the answer already, you just want to prove a point, “Okay then, what was he like after Oliver got me? Hmm?  When I woke up he was by my bedside, and then when I woke up the next time, he carried me downstairs.  Are you sure it was all one-sided on my part?”

“Okay, fine.  He clearly also had a thing for you, when he thought no-one was looking.”

“I knew it.”

“You know, Bjørn, what you’ve seen of her magic is only a fraction of what she can do.”

“What, even that storm business?”

Arthur chuckles, “That’s nothing…  She brought Ludwig back from the dead.”

You already wanted to change the topic matter, but then Arthur goes and drops that bombshell!  Bjørn is completely stunned.

“Arthur, you know I don’t know how I did that.”

“It’s remarkable!”  Bjørn exclaims, “I didn’t think it was even possible!”

“She surprises me all the time:  She has rapid healing and can easily heal others, can manipulate and produce fire, as well as water and probably everything in between, can control the weather, imprison people, can communicate over vast distances mentally and has lightening reflexes.  And, on that subject, we still need to test your physical strength.”

“Oh, joy.”  You say sarcastically.

“Wow.”  Bjørn mutters, “There’s one thing I didn’t hear on your list…  Seeing as you can revive the dead, I should think you would be able to teleport.”

“Teleport?!”  You exclaim.

“Ahh, yes.”  Arthur realises, “I’d forgotten about that.”

“I suppose you want me to try…  Can either of you do it?”  You ask.

“Nei.”  Bjørn sighs.

“I can teleport objects.”  Arthur mutters.

“Yeah, I read about that in your book…  I haven’t tried it though.”  You admit.

“I don’t think that’s what you meant though, was it Bjørn?”  Arthur inquires.

“Nei…  I meant teleporting yourself.”
